Alternative activities in Eindhoven during T-DOSE

Some people have asked if there are other interesting things to do in Eindhoven during the weekend of T-DOSE, since they would like to bring a partner who is not as interested in Open Source as they are.

We've composed a short (and by no means exhaustive) list of suggestions:

  • In the Beursgebouw, very near to the T-DOSE site, is the 'Boekenfestijn', a four day long sale of books of every kind at greatly reduced prices. Entrance is free. See also http://www.boekenfestijn.com
  • The T-DOSE weekend is also the first weekend of GLOW, an event where light based performances are held and light based works of art are displayed in the center of Eindhoven every evening. See also http://www.gloweindhoven.nl/
  • For those interested in art, the Van Abbe museum (contemporary art, http://www.vanabbemuseum.nl/ ) and the museum 'Kunstlicht in de Kunst' (dedicated to the use of artificial light in art, http://www.kunstlichtkunst.nl/ ) may be worth visiting. The 'Kunstlicht' museum will close its doors permanently at the end of this year, so it might be your last chance to see it.
  • If history is more your thing, then the Kempenland Museum (heritage of Brabant, http://www.museumkempenland.nl/ ) or the 'Historisch Openluchtmuseum' (reconstruction of a village from the Iron Age and a small town in the Middle Ages, only open on Sunday, http://www.historisch-openluchtmuseum-eindhoven.nl/ ) might be to your liking.
  • And finally, if you prefer to just go shopping, most shops in the city centre of Eindhoven are open on both Saturday and Sunday.
